Detergent Activators are specially formulated to slide into the Proportioning System and deliver a surfactant solution through the StormStick Decon Delivery System. The Activators are 100% biodegradable, environmentally safe, phosphate free, bleach free and meets NFPA 1851 standards. Each Activator is wrapped in a food grade PVA sleeve that immediately dissolves on contact with water.

Each Activator will proportion a solution for about 12-14 minutes. Our system is designed to allow members to complete the gross decon process (also referred to as washdown, preliminary exposure reduction, etc.) in about 20 seconds. This means, one activator should easily be able to rinse a full structure fire assignment (15-20+ members). Additionally, we designed the proportioner out of material to allow it to store the activators so they can be left in the proportioner after use.

A key reason we designed them this way is that with our system being so fast to set up and get members through, we wanted firefighters to use this on every exposure incident (vehicle, trash, debris, etc.) not only large-scale structure events. Structure fires make up only about 40% of exposures nationally, therefore if we are not removing toxins on all exposure events, we are really making little impact on our overall exposures. So, if you use the system to rinse 2-3 members on a vehicle fire, the activator can be left in place and used again on the next event.

Additionally, the proportioners do not need to be cleaned or rinsed as the activators are a specially designed, highly concentrated surfactant (detergent). They will self-clean as the water pushes through the system.

The activators arrive in a box with a liner and can be stored in a compartment on the engine (usually a driver/operator compartment or near where the StormStick Decon device is stored). They have a shelf life of over 5 years so no need to worry about them going bad.
